Some of you know about my little crush (some call it an obsession) on MU Football Coach Gary Pinkel. Well, Wednesday night I stayed home with Sam while my mom, dad, brother-in-law Greg, Dave and Maggie went to the last home basketball game. Around 7:30, I was sitting at home and my cell phone rang. It was my dad and he asked if I was busy, because there was someone that wanted to talk to me.
The conversation went like this:
"Geni?"
"Yes."
"This is Gary Pinkel."
"NO IT'S NOT."
"Yes, yes it is. I'm sitting up here with your family and little Maggie, and I just found out that tomorrow is your 30th birthday, so I was just calling to wish you a happy birthday."
--blubbering from me, as I try to compose myself--
"Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm actually talking to you. I love the Tigers. I had so much fun watching you guys this season."
"Hey, it's not about the Tigers right now...it's all about you and your 30th birthday. I hope you have a really special day."
"Thank you thank you thank you"...and other ramblings about how wonderful it was to talk to him.
"All right, well you take care and have a great birthday."
So WOW, I got to talk to Gary Pinkel. I have my mom to thank for these special birthday wishes. She knows I'm crazy about him and she got up the nerve to ask him to call me and wish me a happy birthday. Awesome!!!
I also got lots of birthday wishes from other family and friends...and thank you all for thinking of me. So here we go...day one of being 30. Pictures of the kids to come...

Happy 30th birthday, Geni! That's awesome that your mom got Gary Pinkel to talk to you on the phone. I think he's a cutie, too.
Hope your 30's are great. I turned 30 in November, but I still have a hard time thinking of myself as a 30-something rather than 20-something.
