Sam's Broken Arm

Those of you who know Sam weren't shocked to hear it, but yes, he broke his arm. It happened on October 16th (I'm that far behind with the blog). Dave was at work and I was making supper. Sam climbed up on Maggie's little table (it's not even two feet tall) and before I could get to him (I stopped to wash the food off my hands - my advice would be if your child ever climbs up on a table, just go get him off even if you have messy hands) he fell onto the carpet and broke his arm. Now I don't want to sound heartless here, but I'm serious that it didn't phase him one bit. He wasn't even crying, he would just favor it a little bit when he would bend over to pick up something. I watched him for about 30 minutes and thought maybe I should take him to urgent care just to make sure everything was OK.

Long story short, after about nine x-rays and 2 1/2 hours of waiting at urgent care, they informed me that it was broken (a crack below the elbow) and that we'd have to go to the ER to get a cast. Sam had been a champ through the whole thing (still no crying, except during the x-rays, but since I had him pinned down, I don't really blame him for screaming) but by this time it was 9:00 and we were just checking in at the ER. My sister-in-law Carla works at the hospital and just happened to be there so thank goodness she hung out with me while the put on his cast (more screaming because he had to hold still) because Dave was really busy at work and couldn't get away. (Maggie was at the neighbor's house drinking chocolate milk and eating carrots this whole time...thanks, Dennis!)

Anyway, all is well with Sam. It hasn't slowed him down ONE BIT. I know there are a lot of aunts and grandma's out there shaking their heads and saying he must have been in pain, but Carla will tell you, as we were sitting at the ER registration desk, Sam was pounding - I mean beating - on the desk...with the broken arm. The clerk kept asking why we were there and I kept saying that his arm really is broken. The whole time he's just laughing and smiling. Anyway, here are a few pictures of the cast...

Wow! It's good that it didn't phase him much! That had to help you stay calm. Poor guy!
